Separating Fact from Fiction in Early Reading with Professor Kathy Rastle

In this webinar for Tooled Up school staff, Professor Kathy Rastle unpicks why a sound knowledge of phonics is utterly crucial in enabling children to become skilled readers. She succinctly explains why other methods are ineffective, outlines how teachers can ensure that any interventions they use are effective and evidence-based and provides a wealth of further resources for school staff to consult.

Our Class Learning Agreement (for PSHE/RSE)

It’s important to set ground rules for the sensitive discussions that RSHE/PSHE lessons might involve. Use our template as a starting point for setting your own class agreement. Add your own statements, ask all class members to sign that they agree and display on the classroom wall.

Classroom Friendship Charter

This template is designed for use in primary classrooms. Have a class discussion and encourage pupils to develop a set of values around friendship, using the prompts given. Display it with pride to remind children what being a good friend really means.

Letter Reversals (b and d) Flash Card

Lots of young children reverse letters that are mirror images of each other. This flash card can be used in class to remind children how to correctly form the letters b and d.

List of LGBTQ+ Terms

Talking about sexual orientation and gender identity with young people might feel daunting for some parents and educators. Having a good understanding of the terminology will help to make conversations a little easier. We’ve put together a glossary of terms that might be useful. It’s our aim to be inclusive of all identities, so if you think we’ve missed anything important out, please let us know.
